The German community had the chance to ask there questions to Masthead Studios and here are the first answers.
EarthriseHQ.de: We're happy to get some of your precious time and a third opportunity to ask you some questions about Earthrise. It would be nice if you could give us another short summary of Earthrise, Masthead Studios and about you for all the players who haven't heard about the project and your team.
Atanas Atanasov: Earthrise is an original post-apocalyptic, science-fiction MMORPG set in the not so far future where the world as we know it has destroyed itself through a devastating world war. A project called Continoma is established to preserve humanity on the Pacific island of Enterra, by saving human DNA and memories in a databank matrix. When the outside environment becomes habitable again, humanity is cloned back to life and those who emerge work to build a new society free from the mistakes of the past, gifted by all the high-technological advances of the past world.
But while some mistakes are indeed avoided, others are inevitably repeated. Pioneers face dreadful mutated flora and fauna that violently respond to their attempts of exploration. Cloning becomes mainstream to preserve the life of the survivors, but greedy of power, the project-gone-government Continoma is granted the god-like power to decide who is brought back to life and who is forever banished into the databanks. Continoma shifts to a totalitarian regime on its citizens, their worth measured by how much they contribute to the system.
After a coup against the head administrative council, a group of scientists bring the technology of cloning into the hands of a new-formed rebel group, known as Noir. Once independent of Continoma, Noir grows in power and influence in order to become a Faction. Tension grows between the two factions and a conflict looms close. In such difficult situations, players will enter Enterra as newly-cloned individuals, free to forge their fate in the world.
EarthriseHQ.de: Is there a limit of space available for your inventory? Are there slots or weight limits?
Atanas Atanasov: We’re currently using a hybrid of slot grid and item weight. The major limitation in carrying a large amount of inventory is weight, as it reflects in lower movement rate above an acceptable limit. Lower movement is not only a minor annoyance, but it makes characters more vulnerable to attacks and ambushes.
EarthriseHQ.de: There will be a capital for every faction in Earthrise. Will these cities change over time? Will they change their look depending on the political situation or perhaps even grow? Will the players be able to open their own business in the city, for example a shop or a market stand?
Atanas Atanasov: We have plans to gradually expand on both of the Faction capital cities over time, using meaningful events that progress not only their visual representation but their story and functionality as well. However, its too early to go into specifics.
EarthriseHQ.de: We saw very nicely designed buildings and ruins on some pictures. Are you able to enter all the buildings and is it possible to change your surroundings by explosions for example? How much influence on the environment do you have as a player?
Atanas Atanasov: Yes, some buildings will have interiors. Regarding the environment we are currently focused on gameplay, but have some plans on that. We will provide more information on whether players will be able to influence the environment closer to Earthrise’s release.
EarthriseHQ.de: How will the reputation systems work within the game? Does each faction value Reputations equally?
Atanas Atanasov: There will be two reputations systems in the game. One of which is the Contribution; the policy of Continoma to discern friend from foe by measuring each citizen’s contribution to their system. The second system is Reputation. Numerous smaller organizations exist in Earthrise, each with its own agenda and plans. Players can do tasks for these organizations and grow in Reputation towards them. Organizations provide players with rare resources, monopolized designs that create new, different item combinations, as well as other rewards.
Noir, recognizing the strenuous regulations that Continoma placed on its citizens, gladly accepts the position of the enemy in order to attract those who decide to no longer live by the rules imposed by the Continomian government. Players will be able to move their affiliation from Continoma to Noir and vice versa, betraying their faction, but not without serious consequences.
